Blair West are supporting a scaling owner managed group with the appointment of a Financial Controller.

Working as part of a small team, the successful candidate will support the Group’s CFO, owning all aspects of month / year end reporting and leading a growing team.

The successful candidate will bring an understanding of the manufacturing sector, alongside finance leadership experience from a group.

The opportunity:

  • Oversee the preparation and consolidation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements for the group. This may include site visits to the businesses not based at Head Office.
  • Ensure compliance with UK GAAP and any other applicable financial reporting standards.
  • Review and analyse the financial performance of the group, providing insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Manage the preparation of the group’s budget and forecasts, working closely with business units to ensure alignment with corporate strategy.
  • Support the internal payroll function with accurate calculation and processing of the monthly payroll as required.
  • Establish and maintain robust internal financial controls and processes to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial reporting.
  • Lead annual audits and liaise with external auditors to ensure timely and successful audits.
  • Implement and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and financial metrics.
  • Oversee the management of group cash flow, ensuring adequate liquidity for operational needs and strategic investments.
  • Develop and implement strategies for optimising working capital and managing financial risks.
  • Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
  • Provide training and support to ensure the finance team maintains high levels of competency and engagement.
  • Contribute to the development of the Group’s long-term financial strategy, working with senior leadership to align financial objectives with business goals.
  • Ensure compliance with tax regulations, corporate governance standards, and other relevant regulatory frameworks.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders, including tax advisors, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Champion the use of financial software systems to improve reporting accuracy and efficiency.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost-saving initiatives within the finance function.

You’ll be the ideal candidate for this position if you have:

  • Suitable PQE experience (ACA, ACCA or CIMA).
  • Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial management software (e.g., Microsoft Business Central, NetSuite).
  • Previous experience within a group or multi-entity structure is essential.
  • Strong experience in financial consolidation, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Experience in leading financial audits and managing relationships with external advisors.
  • Experience with operating and maintaining multi-site and multi-company payroll functions.
