
Financial Controller

Blair West are supporting a York based business to find a Financial Controller (12-Month Fixed Term Contract). This role will take ownership of the day-to-day finance function within a fast-paced, seasonally driven business.
Sitting at the heart of operations, the Financial Controller will report directly to the Divisional Finance Director, partnering closely with the Managing Director and operational leadership team. This is a hands-on position requiring both strategic oversight and operational flexibility, ensuring robust financial management and compliance while supporting the company’s continued performance and growth.
The opportunity:
- Lead the production of monthly management accounts, delivering detailed analysis in line with Group reporting deadlines.
- Oversee all balance sheet reconciliations, including payroll control, creditors, debtors, accruals, and prepayments.
- Manage and report on high-volume customer and supplier claims, including key supplier reconciliations.
- Maintain the Fixed Asset register and ensure timely month-end debt reconciliations to the bank.
- Prepare and submit quarterly VAT returns and provide required data for annual tax computations.
- Support the year-end audit process, including the preparation of lead schedules and sample data.
- Collaborate with the Managing Director and Divisional Finance Director to prepare the annual budget.
- Manage cash flow and working capital, maintaining strong relationships with key customers and suppliers.
- Provide meaningful financial and operational KPIs to senior leadership, contributing to strategic decision-making.
You’ll be the ideal candidate for this position if you have:
- A professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, or CIMA).
- Advanced Excel skills with the ability to analyse and interpret complex data.
- A detail-oriented and hands-on approach to financial management.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across departments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving ability, with a commercial mindset.
- Proven experience managing small teams or direct reports.
