Blair West are supporting an ambitious business with the appointment of a Financial Controller.
Reporting to the Group’s CFO. This is a remote role (with some interaction to stakeholders in the North East), with occasional travel to sites in the UK.
Working as part of a small team, the successful candidate will oversee all aspects of month end reporting, developing robust financial controls and system utilisation. The business has plans to scale via acquisition, with the Financial Controller supporting with due diligence, deal completion and subsequent integration.
The successful candidate will be suitably qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA), with strong technical skills from a group controls based environment, able to perform to a high level in a largely remote based role.
The opportunity:
- Review and overseeing month end reporting.
- Lead on all aspects of year end audit (planning, completion, stakeholder management).
- Mentoring of the finance team.
- Development of robust financial controls that are fit for scale.
- Identifying system upgrades and best practice.
- Supporting with budgeting and forecasting.
- Partnering the CFO on strategic projects including M&A, integration & business planning.
- Business Partner to Budget holders and Heads of department.
- Oversee financial transaction.
You’ll be the ideal candidate for this position if you have:
- Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) with suitable PQE.
- Strong technical skills.
- Strong communications skills, able to lead a small team and influence stakeholders at all levels.
- Advanced IT / Excel / Analytical skills.
- Experience with M&A would be advantageous.
- Able to work to tight deadlines.
- Self-starter who can build best in class processes.
Key Skills & Attributes
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and capable of independently running a lean finance function.
- Comfortable managing multiple stakeholders, third-party service providers, and regulatory timelines.
- Excellent communication skills and able to present clearly to investors and internal leadership.
- Proficient in tools such as Xero, Excel, and cloud-based financial systems.
- Thorough understanding of finance, and how to drive revenue / profitability.
