Blair West are supporting Ocular Systems, a university spin-out commercialising pioneering 3D particle metrology technology, to find a Commercial Lead.
This technology enables non-destructive 3D characterisation of particle shape, unlocking major efficiencies for industries such as pharmaceuticals, food, agritech, and battery manufacturing.
Reporting directly to the Interim CEO (Exec Chair), this newly created leadership role sits at the heart of the organisation’s transition from research to market and offers a clear opportunity to progress to CEO within a short timeframe on demonstration of the appropriate capabilities, attitude, determination and ambition.
The opportunity:
- Shape and lead the commercialisation strategy for a patented 3D particle metrology technology in a $2bn market.
- Develop and validate compelling applications that solve real customer problems across multiple industries.
- Define and communicate the value proposition, product roadmap, and go-to-market strategy in collaboration with the founding team.
- Drive product marketing activities, including the development of website content, presentations, white papers, and application notes.
- Lead customer engagement and OEM sales to generate traction and early revenues.
- Work closely with the technical team to align development with market needs.
- Build and mentor a small, high-performing commercial team while contributing to an inclusive and ambitious company culture.
- Act as a key leadership figure in a high-potential, IP-rich spinout, with the opportunity to grow into the CEO role.
You’ll be the ideal candidate for this position if you have:
- A degree in Physics, Engineering, Materials Science, Software Engineering or related; a Master’s/PhD is advantageous.
- Several years’ commercial experience in a technical, customer-facing role, ideally within instrumentation, scientific software, metrology, or data analysis.
- A track record of applications development for technical products with both hardware and software components.
- Strong commercial acumen, able to translate technical value into customer benefits and investor narratives.
- The energy and hands-on mindset to work independently in a fast-paced, resource-constrained early-stage environment.
- Credibility to engage confidently with scientists, engineers, and academics.
- A strategic and ambitious outlook with a desire to build and scale a successful technology business.
- Collaborative leadership skills with the ability to mentor, inspire, and build effective teams.
